About
THE STORY BEHIND THE STUDIO
I did not start in design because I loved trends. I started because I could not find what I was looking for.
After building homes myself, I kept seeing the same thing. Beautifully finished spaces that looked polished, but felt empty. Clean lines. Safe choices. Rooms that photographed well, but lacked warmth, texture, and personality.
I found myself drawn elsewhere. To older homes. To international interiors. To spaces with depth, contrast, and a sense of history. Timber, stone, brick, natural materials, and homes that felt layered rather than staged.
What stood out most was not one feature room or one standout moment. It was cohesion.
A home where every room felt connected. A home with atmosphere. A home that felt considered from end to end.
THE MEANING BEHIND RAW + MOOD
RAW is the base.
Natural materials. Timber, stone, brick, grain, imperfection. The elements that give a home weight and grounding.
MOOD is what transforms it.
Colour, wallpaper, texture, fabric, layering. The details that create feeling, atmosphere, and depth.
One without the other falls flat, Together, they create interiors that feel balanced, expressive, and real.
That is what Raw. Mood. Studio is built on.
WHAT I HELP CLIENTS CREATE
I create interiors that feel warm, grounded, and deeply personal. Spaces with texture, mood, and materiality. Spaces that reflect the people living in them, rather than whatever happens to be in style.
I believe a home should feel lived in from the beginning. Not flat. Not sterile. Not overworked. Just resolved in a way that feels natural, honest, and real.
The work spans single rooms to full homes. New builds, renovations, or spaces that simply need more clarity and connection. The scope changes. The approach does not.
WHY CLIENTS WORK WITH ME
Clients usually come to me when they know what they want, but cannot pull it together into something that feels right.
My role is to bring direction, cohesion, and a clear point of view. To make decisions easier. To create spaces that feel intentional, layered, and complete without feeling forced. To help boost confidence when being bold or creative.
ABOUT DAYNA HOWELL
My approach is shaped by both formal design training and firsthand experience building homes. I understand not just how a space should look, but how it needs to function and feel to live in every day.
Through that process, I developed a clear point of view, one that moves away from flat, overly safe interiors and towards homes with depth, contrast, and character.
Raw. Mood. Studio is based in Tauranga, New Zealand, working primarily with residential clients across new builds, renovations, and homes that need more clarity and cohesion.
The aesthetic is grounded in RAW & MOOD.
Natural materials like timber, stone, and brick form the base.
Layering, colour, texture, and detail bring atmosphere and expression.
The result is spaces that feel warm, considered, and personal, never generic, never one dimensional.
